Getting there

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the primary gateway, located just 4 miles from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood β€” one of the shortest airport-to-venue distances in the tournament. LAX serves all major international and domestic routes.

From LAX, the new LAX/Metro Connector links to the Metro C Line (Green), which connects to the K Line for Inglewood/SoFi. Total transit time is about 40 minutes. Taxis and rideshares from LAX to DTLA run $40-60 (30-60 minutes depending on traffic); to Inglewood/SoFi it's just $15-25.

Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) is smaller but closer to Hollywood and Downtown. Long Beach Airport (LGB) and John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County are alternatives.

If driving from other California cities, expect heavy traffic on the I-405 and I-105. The 2026 World Cup coincides with LA's peak summer, so traffic will be brutal.

LA traffic is real

The stereotype is true. A 10-mile drive can take 90 minutes at rush hour. Plan your match day transport well in advance and leave extra buffer time. Never drive to SoFi if you can avoid it.

Getting around

Let's be honest: LA is a car city. But the Metro system has expanded significantly and you can survive without a car if you plan carefully.

The Metro K Line (Crenshaw/LAX) is a game-changer for World Cup visitors β€” it runs directly to the SoFi Stadium area. The Metro B/D (Red/Purple) lines connect Hollywood, Koreatown, and DTLA. A single ride is $1.75; a day pass is $5.

Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) is essential for LA. Budget $20-40 per trip depending on distance and time. Surge pricing after matches will be significant.

The Metro Micro on-demand shuttle service covers areas the rail doesn't reach. For beach exploration, rent a bike or e-scooter along the Marvin Braude Bike Trail from Santa Monica to Redondo Beach.

If you rent a car, expect to pay $50-80/day plus parking ($20-40/day at hotels). Traffic peaks 7-10am and 4-7pm on weekdays.

The K Line is your best friend

The Metro K Line runs from LAX through Inglewood to Expo/Crenshaw and connects to the wider Metro system. For match days, this is the smartest way to avoid LA's legendary traffic. Runs every 8-10 minutes.

Where to stay

LA is massive β€” where you stay determines your entire experience. Consider proximity to SoFi Stadium alongside nightlife and vibe.

Inglewood β€” closest to SoFi Stadium (walking distance from some hotels). A rapidly developing area with new hotels and restaurants. The most convenient match-day option by far.

Downtown LA (DTLA) β€” LA's urban core has transformed in recent years with rooftop bars, the Arts District, and Grand Central Market. Good Metro access. Hotels run $150-350/night.

Santa Monica β€” beachfront living, the famous pier, and Third Street Promenade. Great atmosphere but 45-60 minutes from SoFi by transit. Hotels $200-400/night.

Koreatown β€” the most underrated neighbourhood for visitors. Incredible Korean BBQ, 24-hour culture, and it's on the Metro line. Budget-friendly hotels at $100-200/night.

Hollywood β€” iconic but touristy. The Walk of Fame disappoints most visitors, but the surrounding neighbourhoods (Los Feliz, Silver Lake) are excellent. Metro B Line access.

Where to eat

LA's food scene is defined by its diversity. Mexican food here is the best in the United States, full stop.

Tacos: Guerrilla Tacos (Arts District) elevates street food with ingredients like sweet potato and feta. For authentic street tacos, Leo's Tacos Truck on La Brea (open late, $2 al pastor tacos) is legendary. Sonoratown (DTLA) does flour tortilla tacos and burritos Sonora-style.

Korean BBQ: Koreatown is ground zero. Park's BBQ on Vermont is widely considered the best β€” expect a wait. Kang Ho-dong Baekjeong is another standout. Most are open late.

Sushi: Sugarfish (multiple locations) offers omakase-style sets at reasonable prices ($30-50). For high-end, Sushi Ginza Onodera in West Hollywood.

Burgers: In-N-Out Burger is the California institution β€” get a Double-Double "animal style." For upscale, Father's Office (Santa Monica) has a legendary Office Burger.

Grand Central Market in DTLA is a must-visit food hall with Eggslut (egg sandwiches), Tacos Tumbras a Tomas, and Sticky Rice (Thai).

Matchday logistics

SoFi Stadium in Inglewood is one of the newest and most impressive stadiums in North America. The $5 billion venue features a translucent roof that lets in natural light while keeping out rain (not that it rains in LA in summer).

Getting to SoFi: The Metro K Line stops at Downtown Inglewood station, about a 15-minute walk from the stadium. On match days, expect dedicated shuttle buses from the station. Driving is not recommended β€” parking is limited and costs $60-100. Rideshare has a designated pickup/dropoff zone on Prairie Avenue.

Gates open 3 hours before kickoff. SoFi has a clear bag policy. The stadium complex includes the Hollywood Park entertainment area with restaurants and bars β€” arrive early and enjoy the precinct.

Weather: July in LA means clear skies and 25-30Β°C (77-86Β°F). The translucent ETFE roof keeps the worst of the sun off, but bring sunscreen for the walk to/from the stadium. Hydrate heavily.

After the match: The K Line and shuttle buses will operate extended hours. Expect 45-60 minute waits for transit post-match. The Hollywood Park area bars will absorb some of the crowd.

Check SoFi Stadium matches for the full schedule.

Beyond the stadium

LA is an entertainment capital. Visit the Getty Center for world-class art with stunning city views (free admission). Griffith Observatory offers the iconic Hollywood Sign view and planetarium shows.

Hit the beaches β€” Venice Beach for people-watching and the boardwalk, Malibu for surfing and the Pacific Coast Highway drive. Santa Monica Pier is tourist-central but still fun.

For football culture, catch a match at BMO Stadium (LAFC) in Banc of California Stadium β€” the atmosphere is among MLS's best. The LA Galaxy play at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.

The Hollywood sign hike via Griffith Park is a 5-mile round trip with panoramic views. The Arts District in DTLA has galleries, street art, and craft breweries.

Budget guide

LA is cheaper than New York for accommodation but transport costs add up fast if you're using rideshares. Food ranges from $2 street tacos to $300 omakase.

Fan zones

The FIFA Fan Festival in LA will likely be in a major outdoor venue β€” previous events have used LA Live next to Crypto.com Arena. Expect screenings on giant screens with food, music, and sponsor activations.

Inglewood's Hollywood Park development around SoFi Stadium will be a natural gathering point. For independent viewing, check LA fan zones for confirmed sports bars and watch parties. Tom's Watch Bar at LA Live is a massive multi-screen venue.
